Jumpstyle shuffle

What is Jumpstyle ?
Jumpstyle is a high-energy dance mainly practiced in Europe, specifically the Netherlands, Belgium, and northern France. The dance is also called Jumpen (English word Jump + the Dutch en which means "to jump" or "jumps"). Jumpstyle also refers to a style of music that Jumpstyle can be performed to.

Where did Jumpstyle originate ?
According to the website Jumpstyle Startpagina, the dance originated in 1997 Belgium. Jumpstyle is an off-shoot of the Gabber music and dance scene. The dance style performed to Gabber is called Hakken or Gabbering. Check out the Tutorials page to see what Hakken looks like.

How did Jumpstyle performed ?
Jumpstyle is performed through a series of steps, jumps, kicks, stomps, torso positioning, and arm swings. On appearance, Jumpstyle does not look hard to do, However, execution is quite difficult. Jumpstyle is hard because it is very cardio-intensive.

What kind of music do you perform Jumpstyle to ?
There are so many genres and sub-genres to electronic music, that pinpointing specific styles is difficult. In a few broad categories, Jumpstyle is typically performed to Hardstyle, Jumpstyle, and Hardcore (electronic) music. You can pretty much dance to any electronic music with a single or double bassdrum beat. I know there are purists out there that prefer one music style to Jump to over the other, but if you dance well and the song is good, who cares what genre it is!

Why do Jumpstyle ?
Jumpstyle is energy. Jumpstyle is fun. Jumpstyle is performed to pounding bassdrum music. Good enough.
